I'm looking to get a new PC.  Hubby gave me money for my birthday to do so.   Anyhow, I have PSP 8 in my old PC and a disc for PSP 9.  Does anyone know if they will work in Vista? Thanks.

Good question Betsy.

I took a peeksy on over to Corel and unfortunately they don't mention PSP 10 or under for being compatable without an update.

Follow this link:

http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/us/en/Content/1164926747575

I would email them and ask. They usually respond quite quickly. I don't have Vista and I don't plan on getting it anytime soon. But that is my own preference.

Hope this helps.

I had heard that PSP X was the earliest (provided a patch was installed).  However, there is a discussion here regarding PSP8 and Vista:
http://forums.cnet.com/5208-12546_102-0.html?forumID=133&threadID=269435&messageID=2615544

You could experiment with Vista's Program Compatibility Wizard.

Thanks all.

I understand that we can still get XP for a while - Jan 2008, I think.  I've gotten responses at another forum that 2 ladies have psp8 and 9 with Vista and it's ok.  However one of the ladies has 64bit and the filters don't work with it.  32bit is ok.  I'm going to be keeping the old PC with 8 installed.  Gotta figure out what to do about a new one.  I had hoped to do my shopping during turkey week when hubby's home on vacation.  I'll let him carry the boxes for me.   LOL

OK, my hubby has a strange sense of humor.  Yes, he calls the week of thanksgiving, 'turkey week'.  LOL

He went with me today and I got my new computer.  It's gonna take a few days to get everything organized.  I'm gonna keep the old puter on-line till I'm ready to put the new one up.

Carol, since Walt gave me the money for my birthday, I thought the least I could do was take him with me to help carry the boxes.  I went and picked it out, then went back to the house and dragged him to the store.

Catch y'all later.

I'm going to be working with the new PC this week.  If you don't see me it'll be because I'll probably get lost somewhere...   My old one is 5 years old.  I feel like I'm starting over from scratch.

Thanks for all your input and well wishes.  Catch y'all later.

Betsy, how much RAM and what version of Vista did you get? Keep us posted on how PSP does with Vista.

Happy Turkey Week everyone!

OK, I have 2GB ram and 400GB on the hard drive.  It's an Intel processor because I only can you 32 bit.  The new AMD processors are 64 bit and some of the stuff for PSP won't work right.  Or at least that's what I've been told by someone that found out the hard way.  It's 2.2GHz which is twice as fast as my old PC.  My old screen was the size of a sheet of paper.  The new one is almost as big as 2 pieces, side by side.   I'm connected to the internet now, but no PSP yet.  Got a lot of furniture rearanging to put the old PC in my craft room and the new one in the bedroom.  It'll be several days before I get settled.  Gotta be before Turkey Day.

Catch y'all later.

It is very exciting Carol.  So far, no problems that I can't handle.  I've downloaded the latest psp 30-day trial and the terragen freebie.  Gotta find Animation Shop.  Still have to transfer some info from the old 'boat anchor' (as my hubby calls the old PC) to the new one.  I'd like to get the poser program too.  But it's very expensive.  Will have to think on that one.

You use a bunch of different programs Carol.  Any ideas on what I might want to get?  I'd like to be able to make some fairies for my hubby.   And some nice backgrounds, too.

What's the difference between 32 bit and 64?

Here's what I got from google...

"The difference between 64 and 32 bit processors

In the future, the battle between 64 bit vs 32 bit processors will inevitably yield the 64 bit processor as the victor, but this transition is going to take some time.

First, I’ll talk about the pure mathematics and structure of the processors that are involved here. I’ll keep this part short and sweet.

A bit is short for “binary digit.” It is basically how a computer stores and makes references to data, memory, etc. A bit can have a value of 1 or 0, that’s it. So binary code is streams of 1’s and 0’s, such as this random sequence 100100100111. These bits are also how your processor does calculations. By using 32 bits your processor can represent numbers from 0 to 4,294,967,295 while a 64-bit machine can represent numbers from 0 to 18,446,744,073,709,551,615. Obviously this means your computer can do math with larger numbers, and be more efficient with smaller numbers.

Now see, that description wasn’t too bad, but the question is how does this affect you, the average PC owner? The largest benefit will go to academic institutions and private companies, where large calculations are being performed, huge databases are being accessed, and complex problems are being solved.

Everyone that doesn’t fall into that category will see some benefit of using 64 bit processors over 32 bit processors, but not much in today’s marketplace. The AMD Athlon 64-bit processor is completely backward compatible, meaning you can currently use it with 32-bit operating systems and software programs. You will see some benefits by using this setup, but because the programs weren’t written to take advantage of the extra power, they won’t use much of it.

The true benefits of this set up don’t come from the amount of bits, but by the improved structure of the 64 bit vs 32 bit processor's older structure. A 64-bit processor is made with more advanced silicon processes, have more transistors, and faster speeds. This is currently where the true benefit of switching to a 64-bit processor lays.

As for 64-bit operating systems and software, many are in the works, but nothing is in final version. Microsoft has released a beta version of Windows XP that takes advantage of the 64 bit technology, but there are still issues. The problem is when you run 32-bit software programs in the environment of a 64-bit operating system. Many programs won’t work properly, such as Adobe Acrobat and Windows Media Player, for example. Another issue is RAM. You really need about 4 GB of RAM to take full advantage of the capabilities offered by a 64-bit processor, while most PC owners have less than 1 GB under their computer’s hood.

So, the question now is should you buy a 64 bit processor now, or wait?

Disadvantages:

You’re currently not able to take full advantage of the technology because the software vendors haven’t made the switch from 32-bit to 64-bit processors.

Most AMD Athlon 64 bit processors are expensive, with prices sure to go down in the future.

Advantages:

Better performance out of a 32-bit operating system.

Probably the last processor you’ll have to buy for many years to come.

You’ll be the talk of all your friends!
As you can see, a sound argument can be made for both cases. You’ll have to determine if the differences will benefit your situation and computing future. I’ll leave the ultimate decision up to you. "

I found this to be most helpful.  Hope you do too.

Thanks. I've been reading Online blogs about Vista. People, overall, seem to Hate it. They say they're having ll kinds of problems. Sorry I didn't think to save some of the Links.

Our Computer stores don't carry much stock. It's not like shopping in a big city. I even have trouble getting a graphic program here.I doubt if I wil be able to get Xp. I  don't really want Vista after all I've read.

"...Microsoft has released a beta version of Windows XP that takes advantage of the 64 bit technology,..."
What was the date of that article?

Judy, you can still order a computer with XP pre-installed from Dell.
