Over here we have a number of Safari Parks, where wild animals are kept in large reserves that the public can drive through to see the animals. These parks are part of world-wide breeding programs to save endangered species. Often the non-predatory animals from East Africa are put together in the same reserve.  Lions, tigers and so on have to be kept in their individual reserves so they can't eat the other animals. This can't be Longleat, because they no longer have elephants, but it could be almost any of the others.

Vue 6 Pro Studio image, with Poser animals imported as objects.

Oh I like this Carol. We have a similar park here in South Australia but no elephants as it is unsuitable for them here, most of the othere animals are there though. We can't drive ourselves through, there are tour buses which goes through all day.

In most of our parks you can pay extra and go on one of the park's vehicles. Often then you can get closer to the animals than in your own car, because a Keeper drives and they know where they can go off the roads safely. There is no way I would go round in my own car, though. In many of the parks the monkeys climb all over the visitors' cars. At Longleat, where they call it Monkey Jungle, the Keepers have to clear up regularly to collect all the broken off bits of cars. They take the mirrors, windscreen wipers, peel the rubber seals from the windscreen and windows, and heaven help anyone daft enough to go round with luggage on the roof rack!  In the big cat enclosures visitors must keep the windows closed because they can walk right up to the cars, and would see the vistors in the cars as a nice meal they could hook out of the car with their paws, through an open window.

The reason I know about Longleat is that there is a long running TV series about the House and Park. It has been going on for years, and they do about a dozen episodes per year, to keep up to date about what goes on with the animals, the House and its contents, and even what the Marquis of Bath (who owns it all) and his family are up to. Longleat have amazing success with the endangered species breeding program, with all sorts of babies every year. There is another Park (i think it is West Midlands) where they have a breeding pride of white lions. I should love to see those.
