Hi guys,
I know it's been mentioned before somewhere on the forums of how to get started with 3D. I can't find it. lol (knowing me it's in a sticky with bright bold letters)
So I just decided to post and ask. I know Carol is the queen of all 3D stuff and I am hoping she can lead me to the right place and direction.
What I am looking for are Models. I am only interested in the Models. I don't care much for backgrounds, scenes etc. as being the main focus for what I need so is there a program that will allow me to just create and play with models?
I would be interested in using the models in my creations for later commercial use so I would need that option as well.
I am looking for "price wise" a program that would be on the "lower" end. For instance the Daz3D is to expensive for a beginner. I would much rather try something less expensive.
Thanx inadvance to anyone offering suggestions.
~Sajy

Hi, Sajy. Daz Studio is free. I just downloaded their version 2 today. Here's a link:

They also have free things to go with it. That's how my son got started and is learning.

Daz Studio is free, Sajy. Get it from
http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/software/studio/-/?&_m=d
Sometimes there are free models at Daz3d - keep an eye on the special promotions in the 3d models section. There is a big bundle free called 3d bridge starter pack which you can get here
http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/shop/itemdetails/-/?item=5504&_m=d
You can occasionally get freebies at
http://www.poserworld.com
Goofygrmom posted about a free modelling prog. she got recently. Her post is here

Thanks!
I took up on the free offer and will give it a go this weekend! I'll let you know how I do. I may be asking lots of questions so you may get sick of me asking. lol

You ask away as much as you like. You should have seen the questions I asked when I was first learning about graphics. I thought Willy, who taught me most of what I know, would leave the country!

I'm partial to the DAZ program. I have not upgraded to the new 2.0 version yet. There are many freebies out there for it. When you first download the program, you get a starter pack with figures in it.
The other 3D program I mention before is basically playing with shapes and drawing your own stuff. It doesn't have any figures in it.
I hope you find what you're looking for.

Thanks so much guys for all your support. Quick silly question. After downloading the extras freebie pack they are offering with Daz 2.0 where do I unzip the packs and do I need to -import- them into studio? I took a quick look at the interface yesterday. I am off today and tomorrow and WOW! I'm more excited then a kid in a candy store who was told they can pick out anything they want!
I am jumping from one program to the other to see which I like more. I gave a go at Poser Figure Artist. I like it. Although my first try with it, my model ended up looking like a demon all distorted and such. lol I am a hands on person, I learn more through my hands then reading a book.
With Daz, I really like the fact you can munipulate the models to pose anyway you like. That is exactly what I am looking for. I don't know why I thought Daz was purchase only. I must have had it mixed up with another program. Oh well. I got it and I'm happy.

If they are all zipped together in one pack, unzip them to somewhere you can find them again. You should end up with a collection of exe files. To instal them you double click on each one in Windows Explorer. They will install themselves into Studio properly. In some of the installers you may be asked to click on Poser or Daz Studio, so you choose DS, in others you may have to browse to the DS folder, or the installer may search for the folder itself. If you have a lot of programs that can take quite a while. I usually cancel the search and browse to the folder myself to speed things up. It is alway the main folder you are looking for. The installer sorts out the proper subfolders.
I am not sure whether the freebie pack you get is the same as the Bridge Starter Pack that Daz have on long-term free offer. If you want to check, when you have installed your models, Go to Daz3d.com and search for Bridge Starter Pack. Then you can check what's included in that and see if there are any you don't already have.
Have fun with Studio.

| Sounds like you're gonna be in DAZland a lot! Even though I'm new at it, I'll be more than happy to help if I can. Carol is much more knowledgeable than me on this.
