I've got Daz working but I'm unable to get Victoria into a scene.
I clicked on her folder but she doesn't show. What am I doing wrong ? The Animals etc. are all in their folder and show when I click on them.
Thanks for any help.

There should be a Victoria 3 LLE . I wonder if it didnt install? I think it comes with the starter kit after you install Daz. Go back into your online account, log in and go to your account downloads and see if they offer yet another freebie download starter pack. It will be in there. (I think)

You can reinstall anything that isn't working properly. You don't need to uninstall it first - the new one will overwrite the old and correct any mising or corrupt files.

I now have her. I didn't realize there was more. It drove me silly last night!
I also had a problem with my Activation Code as it wasn't mailed to me. I did find that.

I didn't realize there was more also Judy. I guess its automated from when you activate after you install, they then add more free content to your account. Glad you found the activation thingy.
I found this guide to be extremely helpful. I downloaded the PDF version. 310 pages. It explains alot in great detail. I prefer that over the tutorials. I find the tutorials leave out alot of little info for someone starting out. So if you read through the manual and work your way through you will get the hang of it in no time. Or at least I found this approach to work much better for me as I did hands on going through the manual.
Try this link:
http://artzone.daz3d.com/wiki/doku.php/pub/software/dazstudio/start
Then your looking under Official Daz Documentation>Daz Studio PDF version.

Glad you got it working Judy. You're gonna love it!
I used a lot of tuts, the DAZ manual, and good old fashion playing to learn the program. It's so much fun.

I'm having problems positioning the lights. I think I'm doing what the manual says but it doesn't work for me. I don't care much for the free model either.
Once I know what I'm doing I may buy a model I like.

The Aiko 3 model is my fav. That's the one I used for the clown.
Try putting a distant light down in the bottom 2 corners (1 each) and rotate them so they are pointing slightly up towards the face. Walt did that with his lady, but he actually used a distant light in each corner. Also, you can adjust the strength of the lighting in the parameters tab on the right of the screen. And I've been know to change the color of the light, too.
Try this website...

she has some good tuts and stuff

Thanks. My problem is getting the lights in the scene where I want them. I've been following tuts but can't get them to move. My lights always end up at the feet. Sometimes I can get the first light aimed but not moved.
Thanks for the link.

As briefly as I can...
After you create your distant light (use big red circle), you get the gyroscope looking thingy, which is brought to you by clicking on the round arrow below create. X trans moves it right and left, y trans moves it up and down. X rotation angles it up and down, y rot angles it left and right.
This should get you started. Hope it helps. I'll be back after work today.
Now I'm learning something new... Screen shots! I've had so much help along the way... I will be glad to pass on whatever I have learned. Good luck!!

I have had a quick look at her lighting tutorial. I think I can figure it out now. The other tuts I looked at didn't explain it as well. Thanks for your help.
I'm a Dunce following tuts!

Thanks Betsy. I can now move the lights. I just need more practice with adjustments.
Made this.

| Thank you both. I need a new model. I like teenagers and children better.

Try the Aiko 3 character. She's more like a late teen early 20's type. I don't know about the actual teen characters.

You are making huge strides, Judy. This image is beautiful.
There are teenage, toddler and baby models, and sometimes they are on special offer and quite cheap. The set called teen and preschool will probably suit you best. There are lots of clothes around for them. Have a look round at Daz. They are sometimes called Luke and Laura (teens) or Matt and Maddie (preschool). The Millennium baby always seems to me to look odd, but perhaps I don't handle it too well, cos I have little experience of babies in real life. I am on more solid ground with animals...LOL.

Thanks. If I buy something, what package am I looking for? I want to make sure I get the model that can be morphed.
I downloaded a Free one but it must have just been something to go with the original model. I put it in Content where it said but doesn't show up in Daz. It is there in Explorer in my Program Daz file.

There are two packages - millennium boys and millennium girls. They each contain the teen and preschool figures. There is also a millennium baby (it is millennium baby 2, I think.) There are lots of clothes for them in the Renderosity freebies as well as at Daz. They are often called Luke/Mat and Laura/Maddie, and those clothes fit them although I think there are Luke & Laura and Matt & Maddie models too, which have more natural looking faces. I have never bothered to get those. You have to have the basic models for them to work, and their clothes are fine with the basic models. The only clothes I have for the baby are a nappy and a New Year outfit, though there are quite a lot about.
I get quite a lot of clothes from Poser World, but I am not sure how much is in their freebies, cos I took out a lifetime subscription so they show me all the downloads - not just the freebies.
If you are likely to buy quite a lot of models it is worth joining the Platinum Club at Daz. There are thousands of figures, props and clothes at $1.99 each, you get a $5 per month voucher for non Platinum Club Daz items (not published artists), and other Daz items are discounted too - I can't remember if it is 20% or 30%. I save my sub dozens of times over. You also get heaps of freebies in the Platinum Club.

Thanks for clarifying that Carol. I was getting a bit confused. And Yes! Join the platinum club if you can. I did the monthly sub in case I wasn't happy with it. As soon as I get the chance, I'll switch to a yearly membership. I'm also looking at poser world. I got a free pool table from them. My sil owns a table and I want to do something special for him.
Keep up the great work ladies!

There are lots of super free models, too, at
http://www.planit3d.com
Free stuff is listed in the menu on the left.
Most are 3ds files, but you can import them into Poser so I imagine you can import them into Daz Studio too. Usually you have to assign materials to them, though some have a materials file in the zip too. If not, there should be suitable textures in Daz Studio for most of them. There are lots of models by one of my favourite model makers, Helmut Schaub, specially in the miscellaneous and vehicle sections of the free stuff.
