PLEASE NOTE: If you have never worked with vectors before, I haven't explained how to in this tutorial.

Step one: Create a vector shape like the one I have here, shaping your nodes to match what I have or close to it. I made mine with a lighter outline so that the end result will look nicely when you convert it over to a raster and apply whatever textures you want. You'll notice I have four layers, we are beginning at the top and working our way down. All layers are vector layers from here on.

Step two: Create a new layer and move it below. Your going to do the same as above, shaping your nodes to match mine here.

SAVE! You should now have something like this. ;)

To save the second step you could always duplicate your first shape, mirror it and then fit it in to match the diagram above. Sometimes the best way is to not have such a perfectly formed shape as not all things in real life are -that- perfect and give your final result a more realistic feeling.

Step Three: New layer, again create a shape to match mine.

Step Four: Create the last shape and fit it in just below the previous shape

This is the ending shape for the ribbon. If you want longer, then duplicate the top layer, mirror and fit in above what you have. Continue until you have the length you want.

Your finished ribbon should resemble something like this:

Done!

Your very welcome Judy, glad I could inspire. I love the flexibility of working with vectors. I rarely do any other kind.

For those who want to see a finished result you can view it here.

Please post your results! I would love to see what you all come up with. :)

Thanks so very much!  I'll give this a go probably tomorrow.  I would love to make one that I can save and colorize it for different projects.

Oh, this is nice.  I am dumb with vectors.  I may have to give it a try!  Thanks for posting it, Sajy!
