 I discovered by accident how to make string. Well it resembles it.

I was making this flower from a paper bag image.


 
Here's the paper bag image if anyone wants to try it.
 

 
I used 400x400
New layer
 
Pen Tool
Create as Vector
Line width 4 or whatever size you want.

(Use the paper bag pattern, scale about 167, angle 0)
 
Convert your layer to raster.
 
Apply this inner Bevel
 

 
 * The flower layers I applied the same Inner Bevel , then used Hue and Saturation to color them.

You are Welcome to snag the flower if you want.
